1903 - Pearl Maiden

PEARL MAIDEN : A tale of the fall of Jerusalem

The first appearance was as a serialized novel, published in THE GRAPHIC from July 5 through December 27, 1902. Byam Shaw created 26 illustrations for the serialization. PEARSON'S MAGAZINE also published a serialization beginning July 1902.

McKay, Scott, and Whatmore claim that Longmans, Green, and Company published the first edition in book-form in London on March 2, 1902. Ads at the end of the book are not dated. Apparently 10,000 copies were printed, and only 16 of Shaw's 26 illustrations are in this edition.

Longmans published the first American edition March 13, 1902. Ads at the end of the book are not dated. McKay and Scott both agree on the publication date in New York. The American edition used all 26 of the Shaw illustrations.

See the VisualHaggard.org page dedicated to the illustrations found in various editions.

I own the complete serialization of this novel in THE GRAPHIC, and below are two of the illustrations.

I do not own any of the serialization of this novel in PEARON'S MAGAZINE, but below are some images of the first part from July 1902.
