THE FIRE TRUMPET is Mitford's first novel, and was first published in London in 1889 by Spencer Blackett in 3 volumes. There are no illustrations.

The triple-decker is extremely rare today.

This novel was not published in America.

William Heinemann reprinted this novel in a single volume in 1891 under a new title: A Romance of the Cape Frontier. There are no illustrations.

All 3 PDF files (one per volume) on Google Books has a crimson cloth front cover with a nice flaming torch and 3 spears.

I don't know why the cloth on my 3-volume set is plain crimson cloth. It is likely that my set was purchased unbound by the original owner and bound as per his or her wishes.

Brian Stringer owns the 3 volumes bound into one cloth binding, including all 3 of the individual title-pages

I don't know why Brian's 3 volumes are in a single cloth binding. It is likely that the original owner purchased the 3 volumes unbound and then had them combined and bound into a single volume.
